Delighted to bump into David Hall of Vesta, the Edinburgh restaurant wholly owned by the progressive Scottish homeless charity Social Bite whose mission is to end homelessness. I first met David a while back when I was writing about Vesta’s custom of opening every Monday afternoon to serve a two-course meal to peope experiencing homelessness. I was very moved to meet a group of homeless women from EdinburghAid enjoying the experience of eating out in the restaurant with a choice of dishes: please head to the ‘Published Work’ section of this website for more on this hugely worthwhile - and I understand unique - venture.
Vesta also invites customers to ‘pay forward’ the cost of a coffee, lunch or dinner to people who need it most, and last week David told me he was preparing to introduce a 'Seasonal Taste of Vesta' series from July 8 - a new dining experience showcasing the best seasonal produce Scotland has to offer from fresh seafood to seasonal fruit and vegetables and locally reared meats. For just £30 a head.
(He’s also launching Tribe Kitchen, a unique home delivery service. More on that later.)
I reckon the new tasting menu is a pretty exciting development. I hope it encourages more people living in or visiting Edinburgh to eat at Vesta, and to #bekind to those in desperate need in increasing numbers.
